How to choose a storm glass

Delite storm glasses come in two formats: wall-mounted, with a brass or stainless steel holder for the bulkhead or beside the door, and table models on a wooden base for the shelf or chart table. Choose the finish to match your instruments and place it indoors, in the shade and at a stable temperature: that is when the crystals "work" best. Frequently asked questions about storm glasses

Does a storm glass really predict the weather?

It is a piece of maritime tradition, not a certified instrument. Even so, placed in stable conditions it tracks weather changes surprisingly well, as Admiral FitzRoy discovered. Read how it works.

Where should I place it?

Away from direct sun and heat sources, at as constant a temperature as possible: an interior bulkhead or a sheltered shelf.

What if the liquid goes cloudy?

Delite offers a repair kit and the manufacturer handles ampoule replacement. You will find it among our spare parts.
