Delite instruments: Clausen, Zealand or Royal Mariner — which series to choose

Besides producing Schatz 1881, VION and Altitude, the Danish house Delite (Måløv, near Copenhagen) designs and makes its own collections of marine instruments. They are less known in Spain than the brass classics, yet for a modern boat or a design home they are often the better choice. These are the four families and who each one is for.

Clausen: straight lines, stainless steel, zero visual noise

The Clausen series is the marine instrument reduced to its essence: round stainless-steel case (brushed, polished or matt-black painted), clean dial (satin, black or white) and slim hands. It exists as clock, barometer, thermometer, hygrometer and tide clock — all the same diameter, to combine into a perfectly uniform panel — and as a weather station with four ø100 mm instruments on a single plate.

Who it is for: modern yachts, Scandinavian interiors, offices and design homes. If you like the stainless steel of VION but want something even more sober, Clausen is your series.

Zealand: the Danish classic

The Zealand series — named after Copenhagen's island — is the Danish take on the timeless round instrument: brushed or brass-coloured stainless-steel case, clear legible dial, no frills. Clock, barometer and thermometer in the same finish form a balanced trio.

Who it is for: anyone who wants a real, discreet marine instrument that suits a teak saloon as well as a modern kitchen; and anyone who prefers the look of brass without its upkeep (the "stainless brass" version).

Royal Mariner: the porthole as an instrument

The Royal Mariner series reproduces a ship's porthole in solid brass — screwed bezel, thick glass — with a classic dial at its centre: porthole clock ø185 mm and matching barometer, or the compact ø145 mm version (clock / barometer).

Who it is for: saloons, hallways and wheelhouses where presence and the flavour of the classic ship are wanted. It is the most "nautical" brass alternative within the Delite house, aesthetic sibling of the porthole mirrors.

Pocket Watch: the pocket watch on the wall

The Pocket Watch series (signed Barostar or Altitude) adopts the silhouette of an old pocket watch — round case with a ring — for barometers, thermo-hygrometers and hygrometers with dials in white, cream, grey-beige or wine red, some with French wording or a lighthouse motif.

Who it is for: the study, the kitchen or the cabin of anyone who wants an instrument with charm — also as a nautical gift.
