Denmark is a country where the sea is never far away — and its design shows it. Delite, founded in 1996 by engineer Peter Seidelin Jessen, makes all its products in Måløv, 22 km from Copenhagen, and exports throughout Europe and the United States. Even the name is a play on words: it sounds like delight — lightness and joy.

The house has gathered the best of European nautical instrument-making under its roof: in 2000 the lamps and instruments of E.S. Sørensen, in 2012 the production of the Schatz 1881 clocks, and since 2013 the VION and Altitude brands — always with spare parts and service instead of throwaway culture.

Under its own name Delite is the great name in handcrafted storm glasses — the mysterious ampoule of shifting crystals made famous by Captain FitzRoy — and in Danish oil lamps and electric lamps such as the Petrolux and Cabinlite, many also in 12 V versions for on board. More in our Delite guide.
